Padres 0, Brewers 1
Junior Guerra pitched six shutout innings to earn his second win of the season. A sacrifice fly by Chris Carter in the first inning ended up being the only run in the game. The Brewer bullpen made it hold up with 3 shutout innings to finish off the shutout.
The Brewers were shut out in the opening game of a 4-game series against the Padres. Ryan Braun extended his hitting streak to a Brewer season high of 12 games. Guerra took the mound for the Brewers against Christian Friedrich of the Padres.
Domingo Santana singled to left to lead off the bottom of the first and Jonathan Villar followed that with a 4-pitch walk. Braun, who came into the game hitting .444 with runners in scoring position, hit a deep fly out to the left field corner to advance both runners. Jonathan Lucroy drew a walk to load the bases for Carter with one out. Carter popped out to center, but it was deep enough to drive in Santana. Villar was thrown out at third on the play and the Brewers took a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Guerra came out after the sixth inning after providing a scoreless start. Michael Blazek came in to pitch the seventh and, with the help of Lucroy throwing out a potential base stealer, worked around a two-out single. The Brewers held onto their 1-0 lead heading into the stretch.
Blazek, Tyler Thornburg, and Jeremy Jeffress combined for 3 shutout innings and the Brewer pitchers made their first inning run hold up. The Brewers evened the series at a game apiece going into the weekend.
